Project 365

If you are not familiar with it, the idea behind "Project 365" is simple: commit to making at least one photograph a day for a full year. The intent is to improve your photography by making it a daily activity and by slowing down to observe the photo opportunities that surround you in daily life. There are many variations and sub-projects possible - Google "Project 365" for more information. My project ran from May 1, 2010 through April 30, 2011. As the project stared, I didn't have a specific theme in mind. What emerged most strongly was an interest in abstract and creative images. This is a sample of what I consider the best work to emerge from the project. You can see all 365 daily images - the good, the bad, and the really ugly - on my website at CraigRosenberger.com.

02/07/2011, Day 283
Mast, sail, and rigging on the "Star of India", an iron-hulled, "full-rigged" ship built in 1863. She's moored at the San Diego Maritime Museum and is the world's oldest active sailing ship.

05/31/2010, Day 31
One of the local antique-and-gift shops in northern Michigan has this wonderful old, and very rusty, truck parked in front of the store. This is my favorite photo from the trip.

06/11/2010, Day 42
We have a very large snowball bush in the garden. At full bloom it's covered with baseball-size flower clusters like this one. They only last a week or two and when they shed their flowers the ground around the bush is covered in "snow". This one was the last cluster left on the bush, so we brought it in for a portrait.

06/26/2010, Day 57
An early attempt at HDR.
(High Dynamic Range Image, 5 exposures at 1 EV intervals, Photomatix Details Enhancer, Adobe Lightroom)
07/28/2010, Day 89
I found this on a local bridge. Several years later it was still there - and stlll securely locked.
Basic Edit, Adobe Lightroom
08/08/2010, Day 100
An abstract macro based on a selection from my late father's machinist's tool chest.
(Creative Edit, Adobe Lightroom)
11/20/2010, Day 204
Marsha and I went for a late-afternoon walk a local park. She suggested this abstract-like composition of light through the bare trees.

12/12/2010, Day 226
The first real snowstorm of the season provided some decoration for this River Birch tree.
